Why I Stopped Using Swing Methods … and Why You Should Too!
April 3, 2007
The first 15 years of my teaching career, I taught a wide variety of swing methods, with mixed results.
The last 5 years, I’ve been teaching golfers how to CUSTOM-FIT their swings, with exceptional results 100% of the time.
The two approaches are basically opposites of one another. The swing method approach is about learning a specific way of swinging that is believed to be “right.” The CUSTOM-FIT swing approach is about finding YOUR best way to swing.
You could say the swing method approach is the “outside-in” approach, and the CUSTOM-FIT swing approach is the “inside-out” approach to swing improvement.
Recently, a golf student recommended that his wife start taking lessons from me. He was finding success with me that he hadn’t found in other lessons he’d taken before – despite numerous lessons from a variety of experienced professionals.
His wife had been getting limited results from her golf lessons for some time and he wanted her to experience the success of my approach.
Like him, she had taken numerous lessons through the years and attended several top name golf schools, but still hadn’t improved the way she had hoped.
As she told me her story, I could tell that her husband’s success and belief in me had given her hope, but based on past experience, she still strongly doubted that any golf lessons would really help.
Because of her doubt, I thought it was important to help her understood why my golf lessons would be different then the others she’d had before, and why the results would be different, too.
As I was explaining the difference between the way I teach now and the way I used to teach, I wished that it would have been caught on videotape so potential golf students could hear the difference, too.
So, when I got to my office later that day, I set up the camera and did my best to capture what I had told her.
